Andrew designed a system using the computer-based tools that he employed regularly in his home studio for composition and was the first to do so successfully in a Broadway musical.

Experienced and Knowledgable

Andrew Barrett has been programming keyboards for Broadway Musicals for more than twenty years. Always involved with synthesizers, he got his start during the "Cameron Mackintosh" era when the original keyboards for Cats, where he was employed as a pit musician, were no longer viable and he was asked to come up with a replacement. The solution was to sample the sounds on the rudimentary equipment that was available at the time. This technique, of employing samples of acoustic or electronic sounds, has become standard in musical theater today.
